Artist Statement. For more than a decade I have had the opportunity to work with architects, designers, and homeowners on a regular basis to create one of a kind, site-specific, stained glass works of art.

 

The vision of a commissioned artist is often that of someone else.  My ability to design a piece of stained glass as if I were the original architect of a building is both thrilling and challenging.  All aspects of art need to be considered; where, when, and how are often my biggest concerns. 

 

The commissioned work that I create is aesthetically pleasing and physically comforting. It is jewelry for the home, an adornment for an office, a complement to a space.   It is only when I create work for myself, or for a rare client, when self-expression comes into play. Whenever possible My work challenges pre-conceived aesthetics and design principals of stained glass while still holding traditional techniques and craftsmanship at a premium.  I create shapes that are difficult to cut and designs that are challenging to fabricate.  I push the physical properties of glass near their limits while still maintaining the strength and structural integrity of the piece.

 

When I look at stained glass I look past color to line.  Line in stained glass is unavoidable, it is inherent it the technique.  I take great pride in the quality of line in my work.   I emphasize design and craftsmanship to create works that will last hundreds of years both aesthetically and physically.
